Duties of the Office of Supervisor
The Township Supervisor plays a critical role in overseeing the efficient operation of local government, ensuring the community's well-being, and serving as the chief executive officer responsible for managing township operations and administration. The Supervisor's duties include, but are not limited to:
Moderates All Board Meetings
The Supervisor serves as the chairperson of the Township Board meetings, ensuring that discussions remain productive and follow proper procedures. They facilitate the meeting agenda, manage the flow of discussions, and ensure that decisions are made efficiently and in accordance with local laws.Township’s Legal Agent
As the legal representative of the Township, the Supervisor is responsible for overseeing legal matters related to township governance, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and working with Township legal counsel on contracts, resolutions, and other official documents.Develops the Township Budget
The Supervisor plays a key role in crafting the Township’s annual budget, and determining funding priorities for various departments, services, and community needs. This involves careful analysis of financial data, consultation with department heads, and working with the Township Board to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency in the allocation of public funds.Emergency Management Act Officer
The Supervisor is responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness and response efforts within the Township. They oversee the implementation of the Emergency Management Act, working with local agencies and organizations to ensure the Township is ready to respond effectively to natural disasters, public health emergencies, or other unforeseen crises.Township’s Personnel Administration Officer
In this capacity, the Supervisor manages personnel policies and practices for the Township. This includes overseeing hiring, training, performance evaluations, and employee relations. The Supervisor ensures that the Township’s workforce operates efficiently and in alignment with established policies while fostering a positive work environment.Chief Assessing Officer
The Supervisor oversees the Township’s Assessing Department, ensuring that property assessments are conducted accurately and in accordance with state guidelines. Additionally, the Supervisor serves as the Secretary to the Board of Review, managing assessment appeals and maintaining records to ensure a fair and transparent process for property owners.Oversees Parks and Recreation
The Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of the Township’s Parks and Recreation operations, including the development, maintenance, and programming of park facilities. This includes ensuring that recreational services meet the needs of the community and align with the Township’s long-term planning goals.Represents the Township Regionally
The Supervisor serves as the Township’s official delegate to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG), where they advocate on behalf of the Township in regional planning and policy initiatives that impact transportation, infrastructure, economic development, and environmental sustainability.Member of SEMCOG Transportation Coordinating Council
Since 2023, Supervisor Reeder has served as one of only two township representatives on SEMCOG’s Transportation Coordinating Council (TCC), a key advisory body responsible for reviewing and recommending transportation plans and infrastructure investments across Southeast Michigan. The TCC ensures federal and state transportation funds are allocated effectively to projects that support regional mobility, safety, and growth.Member of SEMCOG Regional Review Committee
As of July 2025, Supervisor Reeder also serves on SEMCOG’s Regional Review Committee (RRC), which oversees the competitive review and prioritization of grant applications for infrastructure and planning initiatives. The RRC plays a critical role in ensuring that project proposals align with the region’s long-term development strategies and meet federal performance requirements.
